Kurren Naicker

Chief Executive Officer and Director

B.Comm, PGDA, CA (SA)

Kurren founded Tactus Capital in 2013 and serves as Chief Executive Officer of the firm. He has over 16 years of local and international corporate finance experience. Prior to founding Tactus Capital he was an Assistant Director at PwC Corporate Finance in South Africa where he gained exposure to multinationals, listed companies, large private companies and BBBEE investment companies.

Whilst at PwC Corporate Finance, Kurren established and successfully co-led the India/South Africa corporate finance team during which time he had gained extensive business networks and advised major Indian companies on acquisitions, BBBEE and joint ventures in South Africa. He was also on a short term secondment to the PwC Corporate Finance Mumbai office.

His core experience includes advising on BBBEE, company valuations, acquisitions, divestitures, equity and debt capital raisings, mergers, China and India inbound Mergers & Acquisitions and balance sheet restructuring.

At Tactus Capital his core focus is on originating, executing and implementing transactions across all aspects of corporate finance and within the firm’s industry experience.

Kurren is passionate about giving back to the community and on mentorship and provides pro-bono advice to a number of start-ups and established Black owned businesses.

He is a non-executive director of GL events South Africa, a subsidiary company of the multinational GL events S.A. as well as a few private investment companies in South Africa.

Julius Makovah


B.Comm, PGDA, CA (SA)

Julius joined Tactus Capital as a Principal in 2017. He has over 14 years of corporate finance and investment experience.

Julius spent 12 years at the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (‘’IDC’’) which is one of the leading development financial institutions in the country. The first six years were spent in IDC’s Project and Corporate finance division where he advised IDC’s business units on valuations, financial structuring and negotiations of commercial terms and conditions of transactions. The transactions included, inter alia, IDC funding of BEE companies acquiring into listed or unlisted companies or funding of greenfield projects.

He spent an additional six years as a Senior Dealmaker in the IDC’s agro-processing sector where he performed due diligences on sugar mills, confectionary, blueberry, pasta and chicken processing companies/projects, often leading the due diligence team.

He advised on the restructuring of loans in non-performing companies/projects which makes him a well-rounded financial advisor.

At Tactus Capital besides executing on and implementing transactions he also leads the origination of and implementation of transactions in the agro-processing and agricultural sectors.

Mohammed Docrat


B.Comm, B.Comm (Hons), CA (SA)

Mohammed is currently the group financial manager of the Docbro Group of Companies. Mohammed is also a director of Docrat and Associates a specialist corporate finance and financial advisory firm.

Mohammed joined Tactus Capital as a Principal in January 2016. He has over 12 years of corporate finance experience.

Prior to joining Tactus Capital he was a member of the PwC Johannesburg and Durban Corporate Finance team. Prior to joining PwC Corporate Finance Mohammed worked in the Consumer Industrial Products and Services Assurance Group in the Gauteng office.

Mohammed has extensive experience in company valuations, financial due diligence, mergers, acquisitions and understanding and reviewing operations spanning a number of industries but with extensive experience in the agricultural, retail, hospitality and industrial and manufacturing sectors.

He has been a prior member of the As Salaam Educational institute financial committee, a non-profit educational institute.

At Tactus Capital, Mohammed focuses on the origination, execution and implementation of transactions in the Durban region.

Raj Govender

Advisory Board Director

B.Comm, PGDA, CA (SA)

Raj joined Tactus Capital as an Advisory Board Director in September 2018. He has over 18 years of corporate finance and private equity experience.

Raj qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2000 having served his articles with PwC in Johannesburg. He subsequently joined PwC Corporate Finance in 2001 where he spent 3 years, and worked both in the Valuations team and the Mergers and Acquisitions team.

In March 2004 he joined Shanduka Group as an associate in the Fund Manager which managed a small Private Equity Fund. Over the time spent at Shanduka Group, Raj had various roles at Shanduka Group including Acting CFO and Head of Mergers & Acquisitions. As Head of Mergers & Acquisitions, Raj had the oversight role on the entire investment process across the Shanduka Group from deal sourcing to transaction negotiations and closure as well as monitoring the various investments to ensure value growth for the Shanduka Group.

Key transactions include the acquisition of a majority stake in Coca-Cola Shanduka Beverages from Coca-Cola South Africa; the acquisition of McDonalds South Africa from McDonalds Corporation in 2011 and the acquisition of an equity stake in Mondi Packaging South Africa.

Raj held directorships on the following boards on behalf of Shanduka Group – Macsteel Service Centres SA, Alexander Forbes Equity Holdings, Mondi Packaging SA, McDonalds SA, Coca-Cola Shanduka Beverages, Rentworks Africa and TBWA SA.

Raj was a director at Kagiso Tiso Holdings from October 2015 to July 2018 where he was responsible for deal origination, execution and managing investments.

At Tactus Capital Raj provides strategic advice to the team on transactions that the firm is advising on.

Raj is also the founder of GIA Capital a niche private equity firm based in South Africa.

Yugesh Naidoo


B.Comm, PGDA, CA (SA)

Yugesh spent over 10 years at Liberty Life, 2 years at American Express and 8 years at PwC. His recent position was a Divisional Director at Liberty Life responsible for financial reporting, debt management, regulatory function for the intermediated business and property portfolio. Yugesh was responsible for providing strategic advice to the Board of Group Distribution in managing both sales and expenses associated with alternate business arrangements and franchise operations.

During his tenure at PwC Yugesh’s clients included Standard Bank, Standard Bank Insurance Brokers, Rand Merchant Bank, Independent Electoral Commission, Johannesburg Water, National Health Laboratory Service and the South African Mint. Whilst working at American Express (Tax Business Services) in New York he managed the audit and taxation function for hedge funds of fund assets in excess of $1 billion.

His skills include portfolio management, hedge fund accounting, financial risk, risk management, taxation, property management and financial planning and life insurance. Yugesh served on the Boards of the Financial Services Exchange (Pty) Ltd and assumed the role of trustee for the Liberty Private Fund Administrators Umbrella Funds.

Zahid Fakey

Director and Head of Advisory for Kwa-Zulu Natal Province

Zahid is an experienced business leader, with over 21 years of experience in accounting, auditing and consulting.

Previously, Zahid was a partner at PwC, leading the risk assurance practice for Kwa-Zulu Natal and Swaziland. Zahid has worked in 18 countries including, but not limited to the UK, USA, Switzerland, Hungary, Japan, China, Saudi Arabia and Belgium. His industry experience includes healthcare, automotive, retail, FMCG, government and financial services.

Some of Zahid’s clients include the JMH Group, Lenmed, Toyota, Unilever, Spar, Grindrod, NBI and DoH. Zahid serves on the boards of Albaraka Islamic Bank and Dube Tradeport Corporation.

Zahid is also a leadership trainer and executive mentor to current and future leaders.
